Tips To Organize Your Kitchen For Spring

Organization. One of my favorite things to do! I just love having everything in its place and able to find it when I actually need it! The kitchen is one of the places in the house that can get out of hand and mine did just that over the years! Here are some tips that I did that can help you!

  1. Take everything out of the kitchen cabinets and drawers. And I mean Everything! Yes, I know, it’s a pain, but trust me. You want to see everything laid out because when you go to put it all back, you will be able to see what all you have to organize it better. And in this process you’d be amazed at the duplicates that you find of things. Because if you’re like me, your cabinets and drawers were overflowing. You can’t find things, so your solution is to just go buy another one!

  2. Purge Duplicates and Unnecessary Items. Look at what you have and ask yourself if you’ve used it in the past 6 months. Don’t keep things because you think you might need it again. Chances are, and believe me because I can attest to this, you won’t need it. Get rid of duplicate items. Donate, or throw away. I found 5 pizza cutters in this process. 5. I don’t need 5 pizza cutters! I kept buying them because I would stash the one I just had away and not be able to find it again when I actually needed it!

  3. Get wire stacking shelves for your cabinets to utilize more space and be able to access things easier. For instance, all those platters you have stacked in a pile, you don’t have to pull out a huge stack of them to get to that one you need at the bottom! These wire cabinet organizers from the Container Store, are ones that I use and they hold up very well!

  4. These bamboo plate racks are amazing to use in different parts of your kitchen! I use mine in my cabinets to access pans. Muffin pans, cake pans, any baking pan, can fit in these perfectly! I can see what I have when I need it and it’s easy access to grab it and put it back. I also use these to hold all of my holiday platters. Again, they are displayed for easy access

  5. Clear drawer bins are another must. With utensils and cooking tools, it can get pretty disorganized and you won’t be able to find anything. I like the home edit clear bins that you can find at Walmart or Container Store. They are perfect to hold tupperware items, specialty utensils like a pizza cutter, serving ladle, etc. Use these clear bins in your pantry. They help to see what you have better and eliminate overbuying and it expiring.

  6. And finally, this was a game changer for me and my family! Using a lazy susan in my refrigerator! This just has to be the best thing since sliced bread! I use mine to hold salad dressings, BBQ sauce, syrup…just about any type of bottle that you can keep in your fridge!

Wire shelf inserts to put in kitchen cabinets. Perfect to make more space and access items easier!

Clear oxo grip bins help you see everything! And large labels help to identify the contents!

When returning your items back to their new home, place them where you would best access them. For instance, I moved our spices out of the pantry and purchased clear mini bottles with spice labels and laid them in the drawer closest to the stove for easy access.

I also made a baking shelf in my pantry (well a couple of those since I love to bake!) with just items like flour, sugar, and then a lazy susan on the shelf to hold all my bottles of cooking oil, baking spray, vanilla, etc. It is great to be able to see everything, have less food expire (and sit there too long).

I hope some of these tips are inspiring for you to get a kick start into your spring cleaning! Check back next week for inexpensive updates that you can do to your home without breaking the bank!

Until then…Happy Organizing!
